Since 1 January 2026 the amendment to the Lesná Act, which for the first time explicitly protects the modified ski routes. Act No. 250 / 2025 Coll., published in the Collection of Laws on 29 July 2025, amended Act No. 289 / 1995 Coll., on Forests, and introduced a new wording:
"Intentionally harms a modified ski route."
This makes such conduct an offence, dealt with under Act No. 250 / 2016 Coll., on Liability for Infringements.
The fine can reach up to CZK 10,000 for intentional damage to the modified ski route.

What is intentional damage?
A modified ski route or track which is modified for machine or otherwise for ski movement - typically a track track. Intentional damage includes for example:
- trampling by walking,
- driving by vehicle, quadruple or scooter,
- horse riding,
- other conscious quality of the route.
Such behaviour may significantly undermine the efforts of track managers and prevent the safe use of traces by other visitors.

Damage to the trail is classified as an administrative offence. It is not an offence but an infringement dealt with by the municipal authority of the municipality with extended jurisdiction. Penalties may include:
- a fine under the Lesná Law,
- further measures under administrative procedure.

Why is this important?
Maintenance of running lines is often financed from public budgets, gifts and volunteer work. The only reckless intervention can destroy hours of work and thousands of crowns of investment. The new legislation gives the administrators a clear tool to proceed against such action.

We ask for consideration
The law is an important step, but more importantly, mutual respect. We ask all visitors of winter nature:
- do not enter modified tracks on foot,
- do not drive on them,
- respect the marking and the rules of movement.
