The scheme of rules in the track: "Code of conduct FIS for cross-country skiing."

Cross country skiing is not only a sport but also a joyous way of discovering nature. In order to be able to move in the track safely and with respect to others, it is important to follow the basic rules of conduct. These rules not only facilitate joint movement on the lines, but also help prevent accidents and misunderstandings.

Basic FIS rules in the track

  1. Respect for others: Runners must move in such a way that they do not endanger or restrict others.

  2. Respect for marking: The marking of the running routes must always be followed.

  3. Track selection: On routes with multiple tracks, the skiers should follow the right track if they do not pass. Skaters must stay on the skating tracks and not interfere with classic tracks.

  4. Overtaking: The runner in front is not obliged to move faster skiers. However, the slower runner should allow overtake when possible. When passing the ski should move the slower skier to the right.

  5. Meeting: Runners who meet in the opposite direction should stay on the right. Rising runners should give priority to those who go down.

  6. Use of sticks: Runners should hold the chopsticks as close to the body as possible, especially near other skiers.

  7. Speed control: Runners, especially when going down, must always drive at such a speed as to be able to stop safely. All runners should keep a safe distance from the skiers in front of them.

  8. Maintaining the route free: The runners who stop must leave the trail, and in case of a fall, they should release the trail as quickly as possible.

  9. Accidents: In the event of an accident, assistance must be provided.

  10. Identification: All witnesses to the accident, whether they're responsible or not, must remain at the scene of the accident and provide their identification.

Security recommendations

  • Please be careful: Respect the pace and abilities of others, not everyone is a racing runner.

  • Follow FIS rules: The Code of Conduct of the FIS for cross-country skiing provides detailed instructions on how to behave on the cross-country track (link below).

  • Please check the route: Find out about the route modification, especially if you are in less well-known areas.

How FIS defines the behaviour on the lines

According to the International Ski Federation (FIS), several important rules apply:

  • Ski-skiers going downhill have priority over the climbers.

  • All runners should choose a route that does not cause collisions with others.

  • Respect for the right side of the trail is crucial for safe movement.

Here we also like to clarify the question of who takes precedence when one skier goes down and the other up and there is only one modified track available.
